Bangor Institute

HISTORY:

angor Institute was in existence as an auxillary of the Church of Y Tylwyth Teg, Inc. from 1975 until 1990 at which time operations ceased from lack of interest. It is presently an auxillary of the Celtic Church of Dynion Mwyn, Inc., a Georgia non-profit religious corporation and church. Bangor Institute currently is inactive, has no students and has no location.

INTENTION:

The intention of Bangor Institute is to activate the Institute in the near future and offer an graduate and undergraduate program in Religious Holistic Health and Religious Metaphysics. Bangor Institute will be primarily a school for: Religious oriented programs of theology, divinity, religious education, and ministerial training.

Bangor Institute will be composed of various Departments administered by "Facilitators," who are recognized in their field. Their teachings will be marked by a different concept: they will teach not so much what to learn as how to learn.

INTRODUCTION:

The philosophy of the religion of Dynion Mwyn as expressed in Bangor can best be described by Kahil Gibran:

Although Bangor will offer training in Religious Holistic Health, Religious Psychology and Religious Metaphysics, it will be primarily a School for of theology, divinity, religious education, and ministerial training. Bangor Institute will teach a holistic philosophy... that all parts of the universe are interrelated... "As above, so below."

Education is a part of everyone's life: true education is not something you experience and then forget. It is a way of traveling your life pathway properly. Education at Bangor Institute will draw on all traditions, both ancient and modern for training the Whole person...Body, Mind, and Spirit alike. Development of intuition will be given equal weight with mastering the subject matter, and specific disciplines are the context in which the pathway will be traveled.

This technique of training the whole person will rely on the concept of learning excellence. Excellence requires balance: An Archery expert, when instructing her students in marksmanship, teaches that the arrow will not hit its mark if the mind of the archer is disoriented and confused. An arrow's path is a good indication of the state of mind of the archer...an indication of how much the student has learned about the subtle balance of Gentleness, Strength, Relaxation and Control.

The tremendous beauty of this philosophy is that it shows us a pathway back to an understanding and appreciation of nature as a way of life. By integrating the various dimensions of ourselves, we remain healthy.

This description of life as a living balanced system suggests a new concept of "Spiritual Health," which can be summarized as: "The ability of a living system to respond adaptively and positively to a wide variety of environmental challenges."

The Welsh Bardic Tradition, the model for Bangor Institute, is an ancient one. It derives from the ancient Celtic Bardic College System that flourished in Wales and Ireland from before recorded history through the third century A.D. This system provided a focus for all areas of learning current in the British Isles at the time: Religion, Philosophy, and the Arts and Sciences. Like the Celtic College System, the educational philosophy of Bangor Institute will emphasize the many fold development of the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual dimensions of the whole person. This development of the many aspects of humanity also involves the intuition.

Intuition is not an easy sense to describe. It is the act or ability to "know" without the use of rational processes; an immediate cognition of basic truths. While the methods of training your intellectual, emotional, and physical capabilities may be obvious, the training of your intuition and spiritual qualities are not.

At Bangor Institute, intuition and spiritual awareness will be learned through contemplative practices such as Meditation and Martial Arts. These practices develop a balance between strength and gentleness which is the mental environment where intuition and spiritual awareness can flourish.

This systematic development of intuition stems from the teachings of Taliesen, who was a Druid teacher and celebrated Bard in Wales. He developed his mental, emotional, physical and spiritual aspects through both study and contemplative practices. In doing so he became truly wise and was revered as a sage and bard. He taught using the ancient Celtic Bardic System.

The form of instruction which we have developed from this ancient learning system is the foundation for what we call the Five Fold Path. Students in all areas of learning will be taught and evaluated in five basic ways:

First, awareness is built on the willingness of the student to see and acknowledge without judgement, the psychological experiences of his or her life.

Second, the student's psychic, intellectual and intuitive insight is developed by specific scholarly and artistic disciplines as well as contemplative practices.

Third, the student develops an appreciation for the cultural context and tradition within which a specific discipline has arisen.

Fourth, the student develops the ability to truly communicate with others. This includes appreciation of the value of the experiences, insights, and viewpoints of other people; relating to them with openness, honesty and curiosity; and finally:

Fifth, the student develops the ability to take effective and positive action in the world at large, whether it is in the area of study, family or job.

A teaching system based on holism may seem unlikely, but throughout life we see that when this principle is applied, people become more balanced with nature, themselves and other people. The training of intuition and intellect at Bangor Institute will bring forth each student's creative abilities and has a positive impact on the way various disciplines are taught there. Whatever the course of study, each student, as well as the faculty and staff members, takes delight in the educational pathway on which they travel.

General Requirements

Each applicants previous academic record should reflect promise of growth, seriousness of purpose, and a sense of responsibility. The Institute will reserve the right to admit only those applicants whose general records indicate they would be successful in the institute environment. The institute will also reserve the right to examine further, any applicant by the use of psychological, achievement, aptitude tests and personal interview.

Applying for Admission

We will not be accepting admissions, until we have complied with state requirements, acquire land and attract various staff.

If the application forms, CEEB scholastic aptitude test scores; and other required records of the applicant are found to be completed and in proper order, the applicant will be evaluated without regard to race, sex, color, national origin or handicap.

Our Future College Entrance Requirements:

Admission:

Bachelor Degree - a student may be admitted as a prospective candidate for a Bachelors degree upon completion of the first two years of a B.A. Program or equivalent, or completion of 100 quarter hours.

Masters Degree - A student may be admitted as a prospective candidate upon recommendation of the Dean of the College, the completion of 135 quarter units of a B.A. program, completion of a B.A. program, or equivalent.

D.D or Ph. D. Degree - A student may be admitted as a prospective candidate upon recommendation of the Dean of the College and completion of a M.A. program or equivalent.

Time Limit:

All requirements for degrees must be completed within 6 years of the first registration for study toward the degree.

Program of Study:

A candidate will have to complete a program of study which constitutes a logical whole. The course listed in the program must carry the minimum units of credit determined by the degree and at least one half of the elective course must be within the discipline chosen by the candidate.

Foreign Language Requirement:

Upon the option of the Dean of the school, a reading knowledge of a modern foreign language may be required of candidates (French, Welsh, German, Russian or Spanish.)

Acceptance of Credit by Transfer:

Transfer of Core Discipline Credit may be allowed when recommended by the Dean. Such transfer cannot exceed 80 quarter units (Bachelor), 40 quarter units (Master) and 25 quarter units (Ph. D.). No grade below C for Bachelors and B for Graduate degree may be transferred.

Grade Averages:

To be eligible for graduation, a student will have to maintain a 3.0 average on all graduate courses taken and 2.5 average on all undergraduate courses taken.

Final Exam:
All Bachelor candidates will have to pass final exams in their courses. All graduate candidates will have to pass a written exam in their courses, prepare a thesis or dissertation, and/or complete all course work and the dissertation. All Ph. D.. candidates will have to develop a thesis and complete intern requirements.

RELIGIOUS DEGREES

COLLEGE OF SPIRITUAL THERAPEUTICS

The Spiritual Health program will offer a Masters Degree and a Ph.D. in Religious Spiritual Health. The Spiritual Health program is designed to provide in-depth training for future religious educators and facilitators.

Opportunities for graduates of this program should abound in religious counseling settings and private religious teaching openings.

COLLEGE OF SPIRITUAL BEHAVIOR

The College of Spiritual Behavior Graduate program will offer a Ph.D. Degree in Religious Counseling. The purpose of this Program is to offer a Degree which incorporates the evolving contribution of religious approaches to knowledge which have expanded the boundaries of human potential and consciousness.

Emphasis in Spiritual Health includes studies in Pagan, Christian, Hindu, Moslem, Judaic, and Earth Religions including Native peoples religions, human consciousness, religious counseling, Religious Holistic Health, Religious Psychology and a specialized program with individual emphasis, which enables the student to tailor a program closely to his or her interests and to complete much of the program in his or her own community.

SCHOOL OF SPIRITUAL CONSCIOUSNESS

The School of Spiritual Consciousness will offer a Masters Degree in Religious Metaphysics, a Doctor of Divinity Degree, and a Ph.D. Degree in Ancient Earth Religion.

The purpose of the Doctor of Divinity Programs will be to prepare ministers and divinity students for contact with the modern world by inquiring into the nature of consciousness, with exploration into subjective and objective realities. It explores religions, both ancient and modern, examining all religious traditions. It provides an innovative and forward thinking curriculum designed to cultivate ministers, researchers, leaders and authors.

The purpose of the Ph.D. Program in Ancient Religion will be to provide an exciting, religious exploration into the nature of the ancient Bardic religions, arts and sciences. This Program features experiential learning for maximum integration of knowledge, skill and personal growth.

THE SCHOOL OF RELIGIOUS HEALING
The School of Religious Healing will teach students in three therapies: Religious Spiritual Therapy, Religious Meta-Counseling, and Religious Herbology.
